Privacy Policy

Radius is built for bounded, real-world communities. We collect only what we need to operate the app, keep communities safe, and help people discover nearby Signals and groups.

Information we collect

  • Account information: name, email address, handle, profile details, avatar, and authentication data. The current Radius app does not ask for or collect a phone number when you register. Some accounts created with earlier versions may retain a protected, one-way lookup hash derived from a phone number; Radius does not retain or display the raw phone number. Contact discovery is currently paused, and the current app does not request Contacts permission or upload address-book data.
  • Community and social activity: communities joined, Signals created or joined, messages, connections, favorites, trust settings, reports, blocks, mutes, and notification preferences. Membership in an explicitly religious community can reveal religious affiliation; Radius uses that membership only to provide community functionality and does not use it for advertising or tracking.
  • Location and destination-search information: approximate or precise location, destination selections, and place-search activity when you choose to use location-based features. Selected destinations may be linked to your account, and query/origin-derived search cache keys may be cached to improve destination lookup and removed when they become stale, are evicted for capacity, or the linked account is deleted. Radius is designed around consent-based discovery, not unrestricted public location sharing.
  • Device and usage data: linked product-interaction events, operational request/error metadata, basic device metadata, and security/rate-limit signals needed to operate, improve, diagnose, and protect the service. Analytics properties are sanitized to exclude raw coordinates, location text, message content, phone numbers, and email addresses. The current app does not include a crash or performance monitoring SDK.
  • Optional permissions: camera for QR code scanning, photo library for profile/story images, calendar access when you choose to add joined Signals to your calendar, and Face ID/biometric unlock when enabled on your device.

How we use information

  • Operate Radius accounts, communities, Signals, messaging, notifications, and discovery features.
  • Show relevant nearby or community-scoped content.
  • Protect user safety through reporting, moderation, blocking, abuse prevention, and spam/rate-limit controls.
  • Improve reliability, diagnose bugs, and maintain the service.
  • Respond to support requests and community pilot inquiries.

How information is shared

Radius shares your profile, Signals, messages, and community activity only as needed to provide app features to other Radius users according to the visibility choices and community context available in the app. We do not sell personal information.

We may share limited data with service providers who help us host, secure, analyze, or support Radius. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to investigate abuse.

Location privacy

Radius is intended for approximate, consent-based discovery. Depending on the feature, location may be generalized, hidden, or shown only to people allowed by the relevant Signal, connection, or community context. Do not use Radius to share sensitive locations if you are not comfortable with the applicable visibility setting.

Your choices

  • You can update profile details in the app.
  • You can block, mute, or report users or Signals where those controls are available.
  • You can control device permissions such as location, camera, photos, notifications, calendar, and Face ID from iOS Settings.
  • You can delete your account directly in Radius from Profile or Settings. You can also request data assistance by contacting hello@radius-app.org.

Children

Radius is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Radius, contact us and we will take appropriate action.

Security and retention

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect Radius data. No system is perfectly secure. We retain information while needed to provide Radius, comply with obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain safety records.

When you delete your account, Radius removes the active account and ordinary account-linked content and data. For moderation, abuse prevention, disputes, or legal obligations, reports may retain their reason and free-form details plus limited snapshots of reported profile or Signal content, such as a display name, handle, Signal text/type, and date. Reports authored by the deleted account may also remain with the reporter identity unlinked. Because these are free-form safety records, they may contain details users originally entered. Radius keeps them only while reasonably necessary for those safety or legal purposes.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as Radius evolves. The effective date above shows the latest version.
